Shoveling Snow this Winter

Posted on Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

The Fairfield Volunteer Center helps seniors and those unable to shovel their own walks by maintaining a list of volunteers willing to shovel for others.  If you are looking for a way to reach out to others, please let us know and we will get in touch with you after a significant snow event.  Some individuals seeking assistance have their own shovels so all you have to do is show up…others do not so you would need to bring your own along…please let us know if you have your own when responding so we can better serve those needing help.

Please share this with friends you think might be willing to help out and together, we can make things a bit easier for our fellow residents.

Posted on Monday, August 22nd, 2011

June RSVP Weatherization Project

The Fairfield Volunteer Center and RSVP are conducting round two of our Energy Savings and Home Weatherization Project for eligible community residents.

We are looking to recruit 75 volunteers ages 16 and up to perform basic weatherization tasks such as installing weather stripping, caulking, and applying plastic film to windows in 12 area homes.

On September 17th Fairfield Sustainability Coordinator Scott Timm will facilitate a quick hands-on training for all volunteers lasting 1-1.5 hours, thereby ensuring everyone a basic understanding of project tasks.

The main event will be Saturday, September 24 from 9:00am and lasting until the weatherization tasks are completed, generally around 2:00pm.  A pizza lunch will be served at noon at the First Christian Church for participants to refuel and enjoy one anothers company.  If you are interested in joining a team and getting involved, call  641-209-9045 and speak with Molly or 641-919-4752 to talk with JoBeth.

Volunteers Needed to Finish City Loop Trail

Posted on Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Help finish our Loop Trail! Have fun too!

The last section of the Fairfield Loop Trail is scheduled to be completed this year.  Many of us have been enjoying the various sections of the trail for many years.

Much of the work over the past several years has been done by volunteers. Over 100,000 hours of volunteer labor, so far.

The project of the moment is completion of the bridge at the intersection of Brookville Road and Burlington/Hwy. 34.

Would you like to volunteer a little time? It would certainly speed the project along. No construction experience or tools are needed. If you have skills and tools, so much the better.

Do you have an hour of two to pitch in, or just to learn more? If interested please contact Stan Crowe at: StanCrowe@Gmail.com – cell:  919-7654
