Job Opening: U.S. Sen. Harkin Announces More Than $30,000 for Fairfield Volunteer Center

Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) announced that $30,624 will be coming to the Fairfield Volunteer Center to establish a new Retired Senior Volunteer Project (RSVP) in Jefferson County. RSVP is a national program that engages Americans 55 and older in a range of volunteer activities that deliver valuable services to children and need, as well as vulnerable seniors. Currently there are 21 existing RSVP programs in Iowa.

“I am a firm believer that community involvement and volunteerism are an important part of any strong community and truly benefit everyone involved,” said Harkin.

Specifically, Fairfield Volunteer Center, Inc. will establish a new RSVP project for Jefferson County, Iowa. 45 RSVP volunteers will provide 60 socially isolated elderly and disabled individuals with services to help them continue to live independently. Another 45 volunteers will provide basic weatherization to dwellings of those who qualify for the program. Activities will include . .

The FVC-sponsored RSVP program is expected to begin October 1. The FVC will be accepting applications and conducting interviews for a paid Director for the new RSVP program in September 2010.
